I know now there is no one thing that is true - it is all true

"Life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans"

That was John Lennon's way of saying too many people don't pay attention to the small things that are all around them.

Dave Buckland not only sees the details, he captures them on film so others can enjoy them. Preferring to use just his first name because, in his words, "It is less pretentious," Dave is an emerging Venice photographer. Recently, two of his vintage photos of Abbot Kinney Blvd. in the early '70's sold at the Stansbury Collection on that same street.

Although he has had very little formal training, Dave owned a camera almost as soon as he knew what a camera was. Over the years, he has taken thousands of pictures, making up in real world experience what he lacks in classroom education.

Blessed with a natural eye for classic composition, Dave blends his photographic skills with his quirky personality to produce unusual images. He is currently shooting almost exclusively in black and white to take full advantage of the artistic capabilities of the medium. On most sunny Sundays you will find him wandering the streets and beaches of Venice, adding to his portfolio.

Dave has been called a "still life photographer," but his recent focus has been on portrait photography. He is experimenting with various natural ways to exhibit the human face and form.
